Over a six-week period, participants will explore the why, how and what of core concepts of First Nations health and wellbeing. Using evidence from Indigenous and non-Indigenous authors and presenters, participants will learn about core definitions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander determinants of health and how these can contribute to the growth in understanding the health and wellbeing of our community and the Australian nation. Participants will learn about the relationships between the cultural determinants of health and wellbeing, strong identities, communities and family life. The course will enhance workplace culture and workforce capacity in effecting positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Participants will learn about:
- Connection to land and Country
- Connections to spirituality and ancestors
- Connections to family, kinship and community
- Looking after our minds and bodies
- Using Indigenous methodologies in your work
- Developing action frameworks to integrate this knowledge into practice.
Learning outcomes
- Understand what cultural determinants of health are, their implementation processes and aims.
- The opportunity to decide about whether you want to implement cultural determinants in individual or collective impact frameworks.
- Gain a sense of the cultural determinants of health, and engage a wide range of First Nations people to ascertain the relevance of this approach.
- Engage with cultural determinants through the implementation of month-by-month activities, worksheets, coaching sessions and through joining a community of practice.
- Hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people about how to implement cultural determinants.

This program is a pre-requisite for other coaching programs and opportunities with Karabena Coaching and in 2022, with the Australian Indigenous Coaching Institute.
